Summary The five lakes here (Lake Mikata, Lake Suigetsu, Lake Suga, Lake Kugusi, and Lake Hiruga) all have different water quality (salt concentration, etc) and depth to give each lake a different looking color. In September 2018, the Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum opened near the shore of Lake Mikata. On display are 70,000 years of sedimentary rock layers excavated from the bottom of Lake Suigetsu, which drew attention from all over the world. The Rainbow Line Summit Park offers a spectacular view of the mysterious Mikatagoko 5 Lakes and beautiful Wakasa Bay. There is also a footbath, terrace deck, and more to be enjoyed at this extraordinary place.
